DESCRIPTION:Well\, it’s time once again to invite the Members of the South Sound Fly Fishers to our End of Summer – 2nd Annual Casting Skills Development Course hosted by the South Sound Fly Fishers of Olympia\n Set-up: from 7:00 AM – 9:30 AM\nCasting for Score: begins at 9:30 AM – 3:00 PM\nBreakdown & Scoring Results: will be from 3:00 PM – 4:30 PM \nEquipment Needed:\n    4\, 5\, 6\, or 7 wt. fly rod\n    Floating fly line\n    8’ (0X or 10lb.) Yarn-tipped leader \nFeatured events will be for participants to earn their Bronze\, Silver\, or Gold casting skill certificates. \nFFI Certified volunteers from the PSFF will be on hand to help score this event.\nFor those who do not wish to compete for score\, there will be several challenging vertical\, standard\, and half-size casting hoops placed on both sides of the scoring area to hone your skills.\nClub members are invited and encouraged to attend\, as this will be the last CSDC event of 2026.\nIt promises to be a good time for everyone and a chance to visit with fellow fly fishers from the Puget Sound Fly Fishers and other distinguished fly clubs throughout the greater Puget Sound region.\nSSFF will provide a 12’x 12’ shade canopy\, welcome table\, message board / rod rack and ice chests. DESCRIPTION:For those that would like to camp out on Friday night\, there are a few spots at Tony’s Campground. This is a private property located at 349 Gish Road\, Onalaska\, WA 98570. Besides Tent and RV spaces\, there is a yurt available For $125. It can hold 2 people. Friday night we will fish Carlisle Lake at 6 PM. Contact Jared Wood for reservations 931 551 6415.\nSaturday we will be  putting in at Barrier Dam at the Cowlitz river and taking out at Blue Creek. If you don’t want to camp and stay the night we should have open boat seats available to float the river Saturday. Since will be going after summer steelhead\, everybody needs a Columbia Basin salmon and steelhead endorsement which is new for this year.  We will do a club dinner Saturday night at the campsite\, like between 6 and 8 PM.

SUMMARY:Monthly Outing  - Leech Lake
DESCRIPTION:Leech Lake is at the Top of White Pass. The outing calendar says June 19-20 but the main event is Saturday and we\nwill be having a gathering afterward to eat. Either we will go to an establishment in Packwood or have a picnic at La Wis Wis campground. Most I suspect will be staying Saturday night not Friday night.\nCamping at the lake is first come first serve and tight. Don’t count on it. The La Wis Wis Campground may have some first come first serve tent sites available.\nThis is a fly fishing only lake so no sinkers on the line. You can use sink tips or weighed flies. The lake is generally shallow so you don’t need a fast sinking fly line.\nThere is a 10 dollar launch fee. This is managed by the ski area and not by the forest service or WDFW so those passes don’t work. Bring a pen.\nNo Motors of Any Kind. Including electric motors. It is generally a small lake and can be rowed.\nBe sure to bring some insect repellent\, the mosquito hatch is unpredictable but remarkable.\nWe will be working on ride sharing and boat space sharing at the monthly meeting.

DESCRIPTION:Our speaker this month is Blake Merwin\, the owner and founder of the Gig Harbor Fly Shop and has been a leading voice in Puget Sound fly fishing for more than two decades. He started kayak fishing over a dozen years ago as a simple way to reach local saltwater beaches\, but it quickly grew into a full‐blown passion. Since then\, Blake has spent countless hours exploring the Sound by pedal and paddle\, refining techniques\, testing gear\, and helping anglers discover how effective — and fun — kayak fly fishing can be in our local waters. \nRemember that starting this month we will meet at the South Bay fire station.
