Update! Monthly Outing – Grant County, WA

May 17 - May 19

Updated 5/16/2024
Due to 30 MPH sustained high winds, we are having to change the location of our Eastern WA outing this weekend to something a little closer. We will be camping at a private campground in Onalaska, Washington. We will head to Lost Creek Fly Shop tomorrow (Friday) at 4:30 PM. The owner Mike is putting together some of the most effective flies for us to use at Carlisle Lake and for the Cowlitz River on Saturday. The local high school helps raise trout all year long, and 5-6 lb Rainbows are not uncommon at Carlisle Lake. I caught 13 smaller trout there last week within 2 hours. This lake is an electric motors only, but also great for pontoons or other floats. We will be at Carlisle Lake from 5-7:30 PM or later if the fishing is good.

Saturday morning we will launch at the Barrier Dam boat launch on the Cowlitz River at 9:00 a.m., we have a shuttle set up for our take out at Blue Creek. This is almost an 8 Mile float that takes a good portion of the day. The river is running at 5100 CFS, with 11ft visibility. Rainbows, Cuttys, Steelhead, and Chinooks are all in the river right now. We still have a seat open in one of the boats.

Our club is providing a Chicken Enchilada dinner Saturday evening around 6:30PM (currently we have 12 who will be there). Phil is bringing some home made salsa and his secret recipe of Mexican beans. Saturday evening after dinner we will either go back to Carlisle Lake or up to Mayfield Lake for a evening /sunset fish. Same locations for Sunday morning.

Since we are staying within 45 minutes from Olympia, if you wish to join us for any of the fishing activities, camping, or just for dinner on Saturday, please text me so I can give you directions to the camp.
